Message from Canadian Embassy re COVID-19

Message from Chargée d’Affaires of Canadian Embassy to Canadian citizens living in Ireland

Dear Canadians in Ireland,

I hope that you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy in these uncertain and stressful times.

Many Canadians, including some of you who will still be receiving this message, have left Ireland in response to Prime Minister Trudeau’s call for Canadians abroad to return home. If you are no longer in Ireland, feel free to take yourself off the “Registration of Canadians Abroad (ROCA)” system, so as to no longer receive these messages. Everyone else we strongly encourage to remain registered, as this will enable us to communicate important information directly to you.

For those of you who are only now deciding to leave, direct flight options have ceased as of today but flights from other cities in Europe, including London, to several destinations in Canada remain open, as do flights from Dublin to a number of European capitals. Please consult airline websites for the best options with minimal transit time, and contact the Embassy should you require financial assistance via the loan program created by the Government for this purpose.

Please also note that pursuant to new regulations, persons exhibiting symptoms of COVID19 will not be permitted to board a plane to Canada; all travellers are legally mandated to self-quarantine for 14 days upon arrival.

But for many of you, Ireland is home, or you may have decided for personal reasons that this is the best and safest place for you to “ride out the storm”. To you, I offer the Embassy’s continued readiness to provide whatever assistance we can. In accordance with the restrictions on personal movement and definitions of essential services imposed by the Government of Ireland we will further reduce our office operations, as of Monday March 30. Do rest assured though that our consular team is monitoring phone lines and emails and, on an emergency basis, will provide essential assistance in person upon appointment.

Over the last couple of weeks we have endeavoured to keep in touch with you via this medium, but also over the telephone, e-mail and social media (our Twitter handle is @canadaireland). Our webpage with “frequently asked questions” is being updated regularly; you find it at You can be assured that we will continue to advise you of any new developments via these means. We are here for you.

Stay safe, stay healthy, and stay home!

Warm regards,

Sabine Nölke
Chargée d’affaires
